Origin Made was founded six years ago in northern Portugal, bringing together a curated group of international designers and a network of local artisans located between Porto and Galicia. These artisans work with raw materials such as black clay, Portuguese stone, and walnut and ash woods, creating objects with a strong handcrafted character.
This close relationship with traditional craftsmanship is at the heart of the brand, which was founded by Gabriel Tan and Cherie Er, originally from Singapore.
Innovation comes through the designs created by a group of contemporary designers invited by Gabriel Tan, in his role as creative director, to be part of this shared journey.
The Scandinavian collective Norm Architects, the Swedish trio Claesson Koivisto Rune, and German designer Sebastian Herkner are just a few of the names collaborating with the brand. Their designs are brought to life in objects produced in limited editions.
These accessories — as well as furniture and lighting — are the result of a fusion between the designer’s inspiration and intention and the craftsmanship and energy of local artisans. Together, these elements bring out the inherent beauty of each raw material.
In this sense, Origin Made’s production is deeply rooted in values of ethics and sustainability.
Because of all this, each object carries a unique narrative, grounded in the local origin of its materials and in the artisan techniques preserved and shared by those who hold this knowledge.
